M is for Miwky

PT’s 91 Years of Wisdom
This year, I had a terrible time trying to figure out what my A-Z theme would be.  I finally decided that this year, I would honor my beloved 91 year old grandfather, Paul Titus, or PT as his friends called him, who passed away on February 8th.  He lived a wonderfully full life and was always trying to challenge my brothers and me to think out of the box.  So for this challenge I thought I would share little bits of his wisdom that he tried to bestow upon us.
But I also want to highlight the wonderful bloggers in this community who have published their books.  So everyday, I will give a quick  shout out to those works with titles beginning with the letter of the day.

Gramps and Jessica with the minnow bucket

Gramps was serious when the situation called for it, but many times he was just plain silly.  He had a few favorite ways of being goofy and he used them on almost every kid he knew. This is how I remember an often repeated scene..
I climbed up into Gramps’s lap and we started talking.  He was eating an Oreo cookie with milk and I wanted some too.  So he called out, “Grandma, can you get this girl a cookie and some miwky?”  Grams scurried off to get some.
“Gramps, that’s not how you say it.  It’s milk.”
“But I can’t say milk, I can only say miwwky.”
“You just said, milk!”
“No, Tiger, I can’t say milk.  I can’t say water or spider either, only watew and spidew.”
“But you just said them!  Look.” I pointed to my mouth and very slowly, drawing out each letter said, “It’s M...I...L...K.” I accented the “k” sound at the end.
“Yup, miwky.”
“Ahhhhh, Gramps!”

To the end, he insisted that he couldn’t say those three words.  And all the kids loved it!  He’s probably up in Heaven right now eating Oreos and asking the angels for some miwky.
