I love hearing all my kids' ideas. They have a lot of really interesting things to say. But the one gem of information is usually sprinkled in between a whole hour long thesis on the techniques of the latest video game or some nonsense gossip. While writing this post I am attempting to be interested in a discussion of LEGO Star Wars people that seems to have no end. I want to show interest. I want to encourage ideas and imagination... but there is never silence. I always feel bad when I answer a question wrong. They can clearly tell I wasn't paying attention. Ironically, I'm trying to teach my son to pay closer attention to what people say to him. Sometimes, he just blocks them out. I told him people will think he's rude if he doesn't answer someone's question. I wonder if I'm being a little hypocritical, maybe I just do a better job of pretending.

Well this sounds very familiar. My kids can always tell when I give them a half-ass answer. But it just never ends. I try to remind them of all the jobs Mommy has to do, and that sometimes I have to be busy with other things. But I always feel guilty for not being a better mom. On the flip side, it's also important they learn now that the world does not revolve around them.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's hard when they get to the real world and realize all of a sudden that they aren't the most important one out there, I just hope they know that they are to me. :)
