We all pass big mile markers on our drive through life, this morning I sped by number 40. Some days it seems my car is racing past the blurred landscape of time; but I don't really want to slow down. I love the wind in my hair.
I don't feel any different than I did yesterday. I never do. I don't feel wise; only now do I realize how much I don't know. My son asked me if it was good or bad that I was leaving the 30s behind. I don't know. I'm neither sad nor happy. I am thrilled that I'm not the 20 year old me anymore. (well maybe I'd like the 20 yr old body back) Now, I have more confidence, more experience, and more focus.
As a birthday present to myself I've decided to come up with a short list of goals for my 40th year. Here they are:
Finish writing and editing my novel
Work toward passing my last two skating tests
Read 60 books
Work on actively gaining knew knowledge every week: by watching iTunes U courses, studying a new language, or working on Khan Academy exercises
I'm sure new goals will pop up throughout the year, but I would be delighted if I accomplished all of these by the time I pass 41.
Have a great day!
I'd love to hear your goals for the year!
Kathy :)

Happy Birthday! It's great that you want to keep learning new stuff. I think we should all aspire to that. Don't think I would ever manage 60 books a year, though. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nick! Well I have to admit I've never gotten to 60 books before, but i'm going to try.
DeleteA very Happy Birthday to you! I personally believe age has hardly any role in how we grow up, it's what we learn and experiences that shape our minds, agree? :)
ReplyDeleteHope you accomplish all your set goals for this year! I challenged myself to read 50 (it's the first challenge) and I think I can outdo it easily! :D Good luck to you! :)
Thanks Ashna. I agree experience is much more important than age.
DeleteHappy birthday! I remember forty. Can't even see it in the rear view mirror anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnd definitely wouldn't want to be twenty again!
Happy Birthday!!! You can never go wrong learning another language!))
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I recommend the language learning =)
ReplyDeleteRemember that to much of the population you are still just a young pup. Happy birthday, again. Hope you liked your cake....you DID have cake, right? :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is my sentiment, too, exactly! Life does get better as you age, I think. Over time, you get to shed the insecurities of your youth - particularly if, all along, you respect yourself and treat yourself right.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the best daughter-in-law in the world!!! I love you to infinity!!!
Happy birthday! You don't look 40. More like 28. So if your blog name was Image, rather than imagine, the adjective would be: young.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Languages should not be too hard if you put some time in it.

Happy birthday to you, Kathy. It's great that you've written down some goals you want to achieve but remember, at the end of the day, it is only a number, ha, ha.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I too would love to learn a new language...Spanish, I think :)
