Mile Marker 40

We all pass big mile markers on our drive through life, this morning I sped by number 40.  Some days it seems my car is racing past the blurred landscape of time; but I don't really want to slow down.  I love the wind in my hair.
I don't feel any different than I did yesterday.  I never do.  I don't feel wise; only now do I realize how much I don't know.  My son asked me if it was good or bad that I was leaving the 30s behind.  I don't know.  I'm neither sad nor happy.  I am thrilled that I'm not the 20 year old me anymore. (well maybe I'd like the 20 yr old body back)  Now, I have more confidence, more experience, and more focus.
As a birthday present to myself I've decided to come up with a short list of goals for my 40th year.  Here they are:

Finish writing and editing my novel
Work toward passing my last two skating tests
Read 60 books
Work on actively gaining knew knowledge every week: by watching iTunes U courses, studying a new language, or working on Khan Academy exercises

I'm sure new goals will pop up throughout the year, but I would be delighted if I accomplished all of these by the time I pass 41.

Have a great day!

I'd love to hear your goals for the year!

P is for Possibilities

P is for Possibilities

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
― George Eliot (from Goodreads)

To me this quote sums it all up.  Maybe there are things I wished I had done as a younger person, but instead of wishing I need to get up and do them. And it's never too late... until I'm underground.

This leaves so many possibilities.  It's like writing.  In a novel there are endless different paths my MC can take and the only limit on what they can experience is my own imagination.  SO why would I limit myself?  Why not write my own story and fill it with adventure and good deeds?  Of course I'll try to leave out the antagonists, but I'm sure they will rear their ugly heads somewhere along the line.  Like my MC I have to find a way to push on and defeat them to continue along my journey. It might not have a perfectly happy ending but maybe I can create a story that others would read.

I also want to share how proud I am today!  Proud that my daughter Jess has just finished writing her second  YA novel!  Way to go!  She's already accomplished so much.

Make sure to check out all the other great A-Zers.

Have a peaceful day

Wrestling on the Stairs

Today as I was wrestling with the vacuum on the stairs, I wondered how it's possible that humans have not been able to invent a lightweight vacuum that is capable of sucking up more than dust.  I tried a handheld battery powered one once.... I think the carpet looked dirtier after using it.   Then I tried a light weight plug in variety.  I slow roasted a brisket faster than I got the steps clean that day, but at least they were eventually clean.  So now I'm stuck lugging my over-sized vacuum up and down the stairs.  Of course the head of the vacuum doesn't fit on the step so I kind of have to balance it with one hand while I use the other to control the hose end.  Even with this mega vacuum's power, I have to loosen the strands of hair that are stuck like velcro deep in the carpet fibers.

If we could only harness the unbelievable power of computers and put that to use on a new age vacuum.  Maybe Apple could come up with special sucking app for the i-Pad.  Then I could vacuum the steps and blog at the same time.
