Despite the incredible heat, we had a wonderful 4th of July holiday!
It is a yearly family reunion. My husband's parents and mine, along with my younger brother and his family, join us at my 90 year old grandpa's cottage. It's so nice that we all get along together and can simply enjoy one another's company.
The kids had a great time fishing, swimming, playing with their cousins, and eating lots of ice cream sandwiches. A few of them always get together and put on some kind of performance. This year they sang America the Beautiful and my son read the Preamble to the Constitution. It was adorable. :)
My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch talking, reading, and having "who can stay on the float" contests in the water with the kids. I think my husband won most of the time.

It has taken me a little while to get back to reality though, I think my brain may have melted in the 99 degree heat! Thanks so much for all the great comments on my IWSG post. I'll try to get to all of you as soon as possible.
What did you do over the holiday?

Kathy :)
Welcome back, Kathy! Glad you had a good time. I stayed indoors for the most part this past week and I think my brain melted anyway.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! (; That sounds like a lot of fun!! We're under a burn ban where I am, and I also live in the middle of nowhere, so no fireworks and no water for me. ;_; I just stayed at home all day/weekend/etc.
ReplyDeleteThere is something magical about Crystal Lake, isn’t there? Despite the sweltering heat during the day and the 2:44 a.m. tornado-like storm which woke up most of us, we sure had a wonderful time. If that’s not a miracle, I don’t know what is.
ReplyDeleteThe weather-related events alone created enough descriptive materials for stories, didn’t they? The only problem was that there were NO antagonists among that crowd. Well, you may have a different opinion. Ha, ha! Anyway, I am always grateful for your family that welcomes us with open arms. We are so incredibly blessed!
Sounds like you had a great time. Your first photo looks so serene, professional and lovely that at first I thought it was some kind of stock image!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun. I'm sad to say that my husbands parents and my parents have never even met. And we've been married for 16 years! I had a good 4th of July. Baked cobblers. Caught up on laundry. Took care of sick child. Are you going to post a ms this month? We miss you! Don't forget about us...
