Survive and Thrive Bloghop

Hosted by Stephen Tremp, Michael Di Gesu, Diane Wolfe, and Alex J Cavanaugh

The blogfest is meant to bring awareness of disease prevention and early detection regarding medical conditions that may be averted or treated if caught in the early stages. Our desire is to motivate people to go in for early screening, and if a condition is caught early and treated, then our world just became a little better place to live.
The topics are wide open. You can post about a particular cause you support. Or you can share a personal or family experience that is near to your heart. What’s great about this Blogfest is you can inspire people to take care of themselves and their loved ones early enough to make a difference in their lives.

As usual I’m late on posting this!  But that’s okay because part of what I’m talking about today for the Survive and Thrive Bloghop is to always strive for excellence, but don’t beat yourself up when things don’t go exactly as planned.

We live in a stressful world where everything is competing for our attention and we feel we never have the time to do what we want to get done.  There aren’t too many days where I go to sleep before total exhaustion yet still not completing everything on my list, but that’s okay because I did my best for the day!

Through the years as a figure skater and coach, I’ve learned that to do your best it helps if you are mindful of your own body.  Push yourself to the limits of what you thought possible, but be aware of how your body reacts to different things. Everyone is different.  Know your own limits and try to slowly increase your boundaries but always compete with only yourself.  Comparing yourself to others does no one any good.  Be aware of what your whole body is doing at all times.  It’s amazing how many people don’t realize what their arms are doing when they’re focused on their feet!

I think if we are really aware of our bodies we can take care of them much better.  When we understand how our bodies react to different situations we can change the things that don’t agree with them and be healthier and happier. When you know your body, you also have a better sense of when things are not right and need to see a doctor, or when one doctor's diagnosis doesn't seem to fit and you need a qualified second opinion. Be your own health advocate by knowing your own body.

This is an exercise I used to do to train myself in bodily mindfulness (it might seem a little weird but it really works!).  Sit or lay in a comfortable position.  Visualize a ball of energy in your belly.  With your mind, visualize moving that ball slowly through every muscle of your body and “feel” the heat and energy moving through your muscles as if you were moving them, "feel" the muscle tense and relax. It may take a few times trying it to get good at it but it’s amazing how much it helps you understand and control your body.   Try it, it only takes a few minutes and you feel great afterwards!

Have a healthy and happy week!

National Worm Hole Day

To celebrate Einstein's birthday, he'd be 134 tomorrow, Stephen Tremp, Laura Eno, and Luanne Smith have come up with National Worm Hole Day.

In about 100 words what would you do or where would you go if you could traverse a wormhole through space or time just once? One safe round trip passage.

Boy it was hard for me to choose where I would go.  But I decided that seeing the future is not for me.  While I would love to finally see flying cars, the future is unstable.  I wouldn't want my knowledge to change decisions that must be made.  I'm sure I would accidentally throw the whole universe into chaos.

Instead, I would go back to London in 1590.  Here, I would infiltrate Queen Elizabeth's court and learn her most intimate secrets. I would also attempt to befriend Shakespeare and learn the ways of the written word from the Master himself.

Where would you go and what would you do?

Knights of MicroFiction are back for March.  If you want to join us, just sign up on the linky list below and post your piece by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 15th. this month's prompt, in honor of the coming of Spring is:  In around 100 words use the words "blossom" and "green" and describe a Spring scene from either the real world or a made up world.
If you want an additional challenge, include the title of Jess's newly released novel, From the Ashes.

My Guitar Boys, Re-Introductions and Lunar Lovin' Blog Hops

My son wanted to start taking guitar lessons and my husband decided that it would be fun if they both started learning it together. It's so much easier to practice with a buddy. So we found a teacher who would take them at the same time, they bought beginner guitars and they are having a blast.  They only know a few chords right now but when they sit down and play together it is the sweetest music I've ever heard.  Here they are showing off their new skills.

Re-Introduce Myself Blog Hop

Lots of new bloggers have joined the ranks this year, so Mark Koopmans, Stephen Tremp, Elise Fallson, and C.M. Brown are hosting a today's blog hop to re-introduce ourselves.  So in approximately 100 words, this is me:

Mother of three awesome kids (16,14, and 8) that are homeschooled
Married to my wonderful husband for 18 years
Figure skating coach
Directionaly challenged (I got really lost this weekend on my way to a competition)
Author- finished my first novel, now working on editing
Reader of history, and anything YA or chic lit
Blogger for 2 years

I love to travel with my family.  I've moved 15 times, lived in 8 different states, which has been great because I have met so many wonderful people.  Meeting fabulous people is part of why I love blogging so much.  I've been amazed at all the great new blogger buddies I've met.

My blog is rather random, basically I write about whatever craziness enters my mind that day.

My wish is to be a supportive and positive influence on as many people as possible and that is me in a nutshell.

This blog hop, hosted by, Mina Lobo,  is to celebrate the beauty of the full moon which is supposed to be at its best in January.  We were supposed to go outside and take a photograph of the moon in all its glory.
Unfortunately, here in Ohio the moon was nowhere to be seen last night.  Instead we had a wonderful mix of freezing rain and snow.  So here are the pictures I took.

This is looking straight up where the moon should be.

have a great week!

Cheers, Cavanaugh Blogfest

This blogfest, hosted by Morgan Shamy, Stephen Tremp, Mark Koopmans, David Powers King, is to celebrate the awesomeness that is Alex Cavanaugh.  He has helped so many of us by announcing our successes and giving us encouragement when we are down.  He has brought us together with the IWSG and is always there to leave a friendly comment.  So Cheers to you Alex!  Thanks for all you do. If you want to join in add your name to the linky list and then answer these questions.
Here are the four questions:
  • In +/- 20 words, what does Alex look like?
  • In +/- 20 words, who could play Alex in a documentary? (Living or dead.)
  • In +/- 20 words, who does Alex remind you of?
  • In +/- 100 words, (excluding the title) write flash fiction using all these prompts:
  • Cavanaugh
  • Ninja
  • IWSG
  • Cosbolt
  • Guitar
For Bonus Points:
  • In +/- 40 words, leave a comment for Mrs. Cavanaugh - thanking her for sharing
  • Join the Linky List
  • Be a follower.
  • Post your 200 (total) word contribution Monday, Dec. 10.
  • Have Fun!
My answers:
What does Alex look like? No one has seen his human ninja form.  He merely leaves a shadow of his positive energy as a trail. I think he shape shifts to pure energy and rides at super-speed through the cosmos. (That explains how he can comment on so many blogs everyday)

Who could play Alex in a documentary? When he's in his human form, I'm guessing either Jason Bateman or Tom Cruise

Who does Alex remind you of?  I don't think I've ever met someone like Alex before.  He's so willing to help any of us.  He's one of a kind.

The Master of Encouragement(100 words exactly)

Ryan Derckmen sat shredding on his guitar.  More than anything he wanted to be a Cosbolt pilot but his parents wouldn’t allow it.  They expected him to take over the family dentistry practice.
As he played, a burst of electricity exploded out of his guitar.  The smoke cleared and Ryan saw Ninja Captain Cavanaugh sitting in silence.

“Your rockin’ has brought me to you.  Believe in yourself you must.  The greatest Cosbolt pilot in all of the IWSG(Interstellar Web of the Sortula Galaxy), you shall be, if put your mind to it you do.”

Ryan bowed.  “Thank you Master.”

****
And here's a special cheers to Mrs. Cavanaugh for sharing the Ninja Captain with us!

This was a ton of fun.  Hop on over to read everyone else's entries and make sure to stop by and say "hello" to the Ninja Master himself.

Feeling Thankful

Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year.  I love the crisp fall days, the crystals of frost coating everything, and  the plethora of people that swarm my house.  Every year we host Thanksgiving because our house is the most central location for everyone coming from N. Carolina and Michigan.

For four crazy wonderful days, we have 17 people in our house.  Of course there is not really room for that many, so all the kids "camp out" together on our family room floor.  My girls are the oldest of the group so they have fun leading the pack and their cousins simply adore them.  This year Alyssa is planning on leading the kids in lots of fun activities like the Sweet Baking Club and Story Time (where they are going to write short stories together and then act them out).  It's a great bonding time for all the kids (and allows us parents to catch up).

This is the one time of the year where our entire family, including my husband's parents, can get together and just enjoy each other.  Despite all the hard work, I feel extremely thankful to be able to have everyone together and I'm thankful my husband enjoys it too!

I probably shouldn't be sitting here writing, I should be planning this year's menu and running to the store.  But I wanted to let all of you know how thankful I am for you as well.  You are what makes all this hard work of blogging so rewarding.  It seems the older I get the more grateful I am for all the wonderful people who have touched my life.

I hope all of you have a Thanksgiving holiday filled with love and of course great food. (I may not be posting again until after turkey day as I'll be in the kitchen!)

As far as exercise goes this week for the Healthy Writer's Club, I did my usual skating practice. Then the kids and I decided we needed a little extra workout so we ran up and down our stairs about ten times.  It was fun but my legs felt like jelly afterward!

Don't forget today is Alex Cavanaugh's, Oh I Miss You Blogfest. I didn't officially sign up for it because most of the people I've met blogging seem to post more than I do.  But I definitely notice when someone is absent for a while and I miss their witty posts and comments.

Also coming up are blogfests hosted by L'Aussie Writer and Stephen Tremp  along with some of his buddies.

I'd also like to ask people to send positive energy or prayers to Jess's best friend Kate who is having heart surgery today.

Breakthrough Breakout Party!

Today is the Free Kindle Download party for Stephen Tremp's book Breatkthrough!  Congratulations Stephen! You can download it for free on Amazon today and tomorrow.  Head on over to his blog for a big celebration.

In a world where the Information Age is moving at breakneck speed, breakthroughs in areas of science that were once fodder for science fiction are now becoming a part of our everyday life.
A group of graduate students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology have stolen a breakthrough in opening and stabilizing Einstein-Rosen Bridges, or wormholes, as they are commonly known, that allows them to transport people from one location to another. Their goal is to assassinate any powerful politician and executive controlling the world's banking system that would use this technology for their own greedy gain rather than the advancement of mankind.
Synopsis from Goodreads.com

This is the first book in a trilogy of fast paced sci-fi adventure.  Grab your copy today!

Do you follow Stephen?  What books are you reading right now? Did you have a great Father's Day weekend?
