New Beginnings

Here we are at the beginning of a new year.

After reading many people's posts on Facebook and their blogs, it sounds like most of us are glad 2013 is finally behind us.

2013 did have some wonderful moments.  My husband and I took the kids on some great trips, we had the opportunity to visit friends we hadn't seen in ten years, Jessica got her book published, Alyssa joined a synchronized skating team, Ryan started playing guitar, and I worked a lot on improving myself by reading more and taking some classes.

For 2014, I'm going to try to take myself to a new level.  I have a number of goals planned for this year, some of which will take me completely out of my comfort zone.  I'm a little nervous about that, but I figure even if I completely fail, I will grow and learn from the experience.  I also have more simple goals like reading some of the classics that I never got around to and writing consistently for at least one hour a day.

I'm still not sure what to do about blogging.  I love interacting with all the wonderful friends I've met through this community, but sometimes I feel bogged down.  Blogging for me was supposed to help me write more in the hopes that I would finally get a novel finished.  But I spent so much time writing posts and visiting people that I lost sight of my actual writing.  Somehow, I hope to find a good balance so I can stay connected and have fun, but also get some work done!  I'd love to hear suggestions on how you balance the two.

Here's to a great new year full of adventure and accomplishment!

Thanks to everyone who supported me last year!
I'd love to hear what your goals are for the new year. :)

  1. Have set days - or even just one day - when you post and visit. I'm just Monday and Wednesday for posting right now with much lighter visits in between.

  2. I think I will have to do that, because it gets overwhelming otherwise! :)

  3. Seems like everyone is blogging less as of late... I know I am... but I do love to stay in touch--it helps me stay sane! :)

  5. I'm cutting back, too, as blogging consumes so much time -- what with tons of household stuff to do, the upcoming move to NC and so on, I sometimes find myself chasing my tail.

  6. It is a hard act to juggle! A lot of expert bloggers say you really need to do it 3x a week to effectively build your audience, but I can only handle 1x a week or I don't have time to write in my novels either. I have to say that writing everyday doesn't work for me either. I write when I have school breaks and then it's nonstop madness while the mojo and coffee flows :-)

  7. Kittie- Good luck on your move, that's always stressful!

Jamie- Last year, I started out blogging three times a week but it was just too much.
I kind of write in spurts as well.

  8. After 8 years of blogging, I have gone through several phases of burnout. It's okay to pull back for a while and then start fresh.
